April 12th, 2001
Its going to be dot.com fun this Friday night, April 13, at Statik Nightclub in Yorkville when FeteNet.com, a new website focused on Caribbean entertainment and community events, holds it official launch.
FeteNet.com offers news, events, music and listing services for users. The group behind the site has worked to establish strong relationships with a number of leaders in the Caribbean entertainment industry. Join the party and swing to calypso, reggae, Latin, steel pan and zouk music.
The event begins with an industry networking session at 9pm. Those expected to attend include Consuls General from Caribbean nations, promoters, DJs, artists, club owners, media personalities and others. This session is by invitation only.
The doors open for everyone else at 10 p.m.
The night will feature live performances by Sweetness Steelband, soca band Taste of Madness with Black Dragon and Shayne Bailey, leading zouk artist Tony Chasseur and calypsonian King Cosmos. DJs pumping the sounds include Blacksheep, DJ Riyad, Soca Vibes, Soca Monarchs and Nuf Styl.
FeteNet.com, first established in November 1999, is the brainchild of Ivan Harrilal a computer engineer, and Andrew Ackloo, a graphic artist. Harrilal sees its increasing popularity as a growing success. We try to put out the best quality at FeteNet and keep it competitive. We have primarily info of events around Toronto. Our next step is trying to go national, then to go international. Weve gotten people e-mailing us from St. Kitts, New York and Grenada, he told Share.
The team of Harrilal and Ackloo also runs Metamage, a four-year-old multimedia development company based in Toronto that develops corporate websites. Metamage is the parent company of FeteNet.com in what Harrilal describes as a very competitive field.
Harrilal said that in the beginning the challenge was to gain credibility with club owners and DJs in order to show them that the site was intended to build added exposure for them.
(This Fridays) launch is being timed to mark the start of the season as far as Caribana goes and other soca events, said Harrilal.
Admission to the FeteNet launch is free between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., and $10 after.
Statik Nightclub is located at 17A Yorkville Avenue.
