8 Rooks Announces Soul-Rs Debut Album Launch Concert!

Toronto, December 13, 2007 8 Rooks Enlightenment proudly announces the
highly anticipated launch of "A Passage In Time" the debut album by
Soul-R, with an electrifying concert at Lula Lounge on Sunday, January 13,
2008!

The premiere full-length album produced independently at 8 Rooks Muse Sik
Studios, "A Passage In Time" explodes onto Torontos performance arts
scene with the divine intensity that has laid the framework for the
eclectic artist who prefers to be defined as a "visionary" rather than an
entertainer. Soul-Rs ingenious compilation of 13 non-traditional spoken
word tracks (including the signature 8 Rooks) is a genre-defying work of
art that encompasses everything from dub poetry to hip-hop to reggae, each
piece with its own unique personality. A Passage In Time documents
Soul-Rs provocative and unconventional passion for social justice and
spiritual enlightenment, evident on tracks like Ask Me, a composition
reflecting an intensely animated socio-political dichotomy. Wages of Life,
the album's Genesis piece, moves into the signature 8 Rooks, Ask Me and
Attention laid poetically over a hip hop and R&B flavourwhile Word
Revolution lyrically dissects the manipulation of words as weapons, as
heard in the chorus: This is real revolution in a revolution time / We
cant match dem gun for gun / We got to match dem with mind. Originally
composed for CBCs Poetry Face Off, Play is a classic piece based on the
word play, exploring the dimensions of the word as an art form, inspired
by a 70s Curtis Mayfield groove. Essence is perhaps the most subtle track
on the album, breaking down the deeper understanding that beyond words
and physical matter is the core of all things, its the essence. The poem
flows like water, with soft undertones that any listener can relate to. "A
Passage In Time" is sealed by Freedom Cry, one of Soul-R's most popular
tracks: "Why are you crying for freedom when freedom doesnt cry? You have
the power of will, therefore you can will your own existence...to control
your thoughts is to alleviate the physical realm of existence...and

Passage In Time" will take place on Sunday, January 13, 08 at Lula
Lounge, located at 1585 Dundas St. W. Hosted by the incomparable Lady Loxx
(CHRY 105.5 FM) & Empress Lesa (CMAST) the intimate and interactive event
will feature phenomenal live performances by Soul-R of 8 Rooks
Enlightenment (Dub Poetry) backed by the 8 Rooks NTERnational Band under
the direction of the well accomplished seasoned music veteran, Ras Iauwata
Amha Selassie M.D. (Reggae), Ania Soul (Acoustic Neo-Soul), Humble
(Reggae), Boogie (Soul), Testament & Still Waters of Hilltop Productions
(Hip Hop) and I Ras (Reggae), with music by DJ Patrick Roots of CIUT 89.5
