THE LEGENDARY GREGORY ISAACS with the LIVE WYYA BAND LIVE IN CONCERT AT THE PHOENIX CONCERT THEATRE
with special guest Friendlyness & The Human Rights
TORONTO, ON (February 7, 2008) Brown Eyes Entertainment in association with NOW Magazine proudly present legendary reggae icon Gregory Isaacs' return to Toronto for the first time in five years, along with a ten-piece band for a fitting stop at The Phoenix Concert Theatre as part of his 30 city North America tour. With hit songs like "Night Nurse," "Sad to Know You're Leaving" and "Rumours," along with his dapper demeanour, Gregory Isaacs lives up to his namesake, the Cool Ruler, as the King of Lover's Rock. He's bringing the Live Wyya Band, the winner of Jamaica's first official Battle of the Bands, and this concert is their Toronto debut. Friendlyness & The Human Rights will be opening the show, with pre and post show music provided by King Turbo, DJ Chocolate, D.O.C, Suppa Natty, and Mista Jiggz.
Gregory Isaacs' discography spans more then fifteen full length albums, including the international smash "Night Nurse" LP for Island Records and also gave British pop band Simply Red a top ten hit in 1997 with their cover of the title track. Arguably the most enduring crooner from the Lover's Rock heyday in the 1980's, Gregory Isaacs makes every lady in the audience feel like he is singing for her and her alone, yet he is genuine enough in his delivery that their dates don't mind. Gregory's more conscious roots songs have also struck a deep chord with listeners, songs like "Mr. Cop" and "Slavedriver" (also released on the soundtrack of the Jamaican film cult-classic Rockers) remain popular to this day. In the truest homage offered to Jamaica's reggae pioneers, several of his songs (like "Love Is Overdue") have given birth to countless re-makes and serve as the instrumentals used by the newer generation to sing over, and for some of those artists, like Lady Saw and Tanya Stephens, garnered their remakes inclusion on compilations like Reggae Gold and Strictly the Best.
Mark this date Monday, March 10th in your calendar, bring a "Red Rose for Gregory" to the Phoenix with your loved one and enjoy the sounds of one of the most enduring singing stars of Jamaica.
This event is co-sponsored by CIUT 89.5FM, CKLN 88.1FM, and Reggae Pulse on CHIN (1540AM/91.9FM)
